REVIEW DRAFT — source policy decisions remain unconfirmed. Do not replace the existing published policy yet.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to contact us about it.
Yes for PTE is a brand operated by Mentobeam (Private) Limited, and we are the data controller for the information described here.
We’ve written this in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, email info@yesforpte.com and we’ll explain it.
1. What we collect
When you enquire or book a free session Name, email address, WhatsApp number, and anything you tell us about your PTE history.
When you register for PTE Basecamp Name, email address, WhatsApp number.
When you enrol in a course The above, plus billing details. Card payments are processed by PayHere — we never see or store your card details.
Identity verification Your NIC number or passport number. We collect this to confirm your identity, to make sure your enrolment and exam records match, and to keep your account secure. We ask for it only where it’s needed and we don’t use it for anything else.
When you apply for Chamindu’s Five Your PTE score reports, Skills Profile screenshots, attempt history and scores, target score and exam date, what the score is for, and a link to a practice recording of your voice.
When you use the student portal or practice platform Your practice answers, voice recordings, automatically generated practice scores and feedback, quiz results, assignments and progress.
During live classes Sessions are recorded. Your voice, and your video if your camera is on, may be captured.
When you message us WhatsApp conversation history, including anything you send us such as score reports.
When you visit our website IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, and cookie data through Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel.
2. Why we collect it, and our lawful basis
| What we use it for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Delivering your course and giving you feedback | Performance of our contract with you |
| Confirming your identity | Contract, and our legitimate interest in preventing account misuse |
| Processing payments and keeping accounting records | Contract, and legal obligation |
| Reviewing your Chamindu’s Five application | Your consent, and steps taken before entering a contract |
| Contacting you about your batch, schedule or account | Contract |
| Sending prediction files, newsletters and offers | Your consent — you can withdraw it at any time |
| Improving our courses and materials | Our legitimate interests |
| Publishing your score report or messages as a success story | Your specific written consent, given separately |
| Website analytics and advertising | Your consent through the cookie banner |
We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
3. Practice scores
Our practice platform scores your practice answers automatically.
These are practice scores, not assessments of you. They’re a training tool, they don’t match official Pearson scoring, and they don’t determine anything about your enrolment, your progress or your place on a course.
Every decision that actually affects you — your study plan, whether you’re ready to sit the exam, whether an application is accepted — is made by a human coach.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the providers we need to run our business:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| PayHere | Payment processing |
| AlphaPTE | Practice platform, practice questions and automated practice scoring |
| Website analytics | |
| Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) | Messaging and advertising |
| Zoom | Live online classes |
We also use standard website, hosting and email infrastructure providers to operate our site and communicate with you.
We may disclose information where we’re legally required to.
Transfers outside Sri Lanka. Some of the providers above store data outside Sri Lanka. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains protected, in line with the Personal Data Protection Act and directives issued by the Data Protection Authority. [CONFIRM with lawyer — the DPA has issued specific directives on cross-border transfers]
5. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above.
In practice: student records are kept while you’re studying with us and for a reasonable period afterwards; payment and accounting records are kept for as long as Sri Lankan law requires; practice answers, voice recordings and class recordings are kept while they’re useful to you and deleted after that; and published success stories stay up until you ask us to remove them.
If you’d like your information deleted sooner, email us.
6. Success stories
We publish student score reports and messages on our website and social media. We only ever do this with that student’s specific written permission, given separately from these terms.
Before publishing, we remove or blur full names, NIC and passport numbers, candidate IDs, dates of birth, registration numbers, phone numbers and profile photos.
If you’ve given permission and later change your mind, email us and we’ll take it down. You don’t need to give a reason.
7. Your rights
Under Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act, you have the right to access the information we hold about you, correct anything that’s wrong, ask us to delete it in certain circumstances, withdraw consent where we relied on it, and object to certain kinds of processing.
To use any of these rights, email info@yesforpte.com. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your request, you can complain to the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
8. Keeping your information secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including secure hosting, restricted staff access, and encrypted connections for payments and logins.
No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach occurs that affects you, we’ll tell you and the Data Protection Authority as required.
9. Cookies
Our website uses cookies for basic functionality, analytics and advertising.
When you first visit, you’ll be asked which you accept. Non-essential cookies are off by default and are only used if you agree. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in our footer.
Essential cookies — the ones that keep you logged in and your cart working — can’t be turned off.
10. Children
Our courses are intended for people aged 18 and over. [CONFIRM — if you accept students under 18, this needs rewriting: parental consent, and the PDPA has specific provisions for children's data]
If you’re under 18 and want to study with us, please have a parent or guardian contact us first.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top. If we make a significant change, we’ll tell current students directly.
